I didn't read the sites but the key is keeping your hair moisturized. There will be some breakage at the line of demarcation but it should be minor.

Also, I don't recommend a "pressing comb" that is "cooked" on the stove because you can't control the temperature. There are some "plug ins" that you can use with temperature controls.

I think using a flat iron with temperature control can work just as good as a pressing comb. With a pressing comb you have to really mask the hair so it will not burn up the hair and be very skilled at the pressing process. (heated on stove pressing comb).

With a plug in, you have a bit more freedom in what you are doing. The key is to flat iron/press very small sections and distribute the heat evenly throughout the piece of hair being straightened. You should only press your hair once a week and avoid any heat on your hair during the week.

If you feel the press isn't lasting a full week...you can plait your hair after school/work and leave plaited overnight (med to large plaits) and then take them out in the morning. It will make the new growth and your relaxed ends look similar.

Remember: sweat and water to be pressed hair's nightmare.

Also if you use a ceramic flat iron ... it is actually the best type to use ... with a light weight hair protector so you won't look slicked down.
